Annual Destination Guide: Fredericksburg

Fredericksburg Welcomes Meetings Big or Small

Fredericksburg can make a planner’s next reunion or meeting an historic event that everyone will remember. The impressive list of people who have spent time here include George Washington, who grew up in the area, as well as General Robert E. Lee and General Ulysses S. Grant, who met here during the Civil War.

Just 50 miles from Washington, D.C., the Fredericksburg area offers all the conveniences of a big city without the correspondingly large price tag. Its affordable accommodations and variety of meeting facilities offer value that can’t be beat. Plus, the new Fredericksburg Expo and Conference Center opened in January 2006 with ten meeting rooms and a 110,000-square-foot exhibition hall.

There are also plenty of group sightseeing tours. Fredericksburg Area Tourism will help planners arrange an itinerary to visit museums and battlefields and help with local transportation. Trolley Tours of Fredericksburg can pick groups up at their hotel and transport them to Old Town Fredericksburg for a 75-minute narrated tour. For evening, consider Riverside Dinner Theater, which offers classic Broadway musicals. From May through October, lunch and dinner cruises are available along the Rappahannock River.
