Annual Destination Guide: Callaway Gardens

Callaway Gardens Brings Nature To Your Next Meeting

Callaway GardensTucked away in Pine Mountain, Georgia, you’ll find a rare jewel – a meeting location that combines natural beauty with first-rate functionality. Callaway Gardens isn’t just another resort. This retreat, located in the Appalachian Mountains, sits on 13,000 private acres with exquisite gardens, wilderness areas and facilities intended to provide adventure, discovery and recreation all in one location.

Callaway Communications Director Rachel Crumbley describes the Gardens, which is owned by the nonprofit Ida Cason Callaway Foundation, as unique: “Our overall mission is to integrate man and nature in a way that benefits both. So what you’ll find at Callaway is great meeting space, great rooms, great food, great golf, but [also] lots of unique garden/forest features and locales for teambuilding, gatherings, functions, etc. The peacefulness of the gardens is very much reflected in the facilities.”

While nature is the core of Callaway’s mission, man-made facilities are also impressive. The newest feature at Callaway Gardens is the Lodge and Spa, including 150 luxury rooms. This facility has been attached to the Southern Pine Conference Center so that executives can meet and stay under the same roof. The Center includes 22,000 square feet of flexible meeting space, 12,000 square feet of landscaped terraces and lawns, a 7,000-square-foot ballroom and a 4,080-square-foot ballroom, both of which divide easily into more intimate spaces.

Smaller groups will find comfortable meeting areas in either the preset boardroom that accommodates 20 or breakout rooms of 450 to 900 square feet. On-the-spot needs can be quickly addressed by a full-time conference concierge and business services coordinator. You’ll also find advanced audio-visual services and wireless Internet service. If an exhibition is also part of your event, there’s easy access to the 21,000-square-foot Beach Dome for trade show functions.

A stay at Callaway Gardens, however, is much more than work time and conferences. The real fun and value comes from the lovely natural setting, a meticulous golf course and exquisite spa services. “You aren’t going to find [another] resort of this size that offers the scale of amenities and recreation that we have,” Crumbley says. The location allows you to design a getaway for valued organizational members or to reward top performance with a day of pampered relaxation. Or, organize a golf outing for pleasure or fundraising. Callaway extends planners access to a certified professional golf staff that’s ready to coordinate your tournaments and group golf events.

If quiet reflection or reuniting members is your goal, consider The Cottages at Callaway. Recently refurbished, these comfortably decorated two-bedroom retreats provide an excellent gathering spot for those that want a private getaway for fraternal reunions or religious prayer meetings.
The total package of activities and accommodations that Callaway offers can fit just about any audience or event, no matter what time of year or budget you’ve set. “Each season there’s something different to see and do,” Crumbley says.

So pick your month and consider combining fun and function amidst natural beauty for your next meeting at Callaway Gardens.
