Annual Destination Guide: Belterra, IN

A Unique (and Affordable) Meeting Experience

Belterra, INLocated roughly 45 minutes from both Cincinnati, OH and Louisville, KY, Belterra is a classic but unique casino resort situated on the scenic Ohio River near the Markland Dam in Switzerland County, Indiana. The property is within easy driving distance for nearly five million people, and it combines elegance, luxury and fun into one great meeting destination.

Belterra opened in 2000, but a $37 million expansion project in 2004 doubled the number of rooms and added meeting and conference space, making it an appealing new option for meeting planners, as well as the largest casino resort hotel in Indiana.

With 38,000 square feet of casino space, 608 guest rooms and suites, seven food venues, a shopping pavilion, a spa and salon, a 1,500-seat entertainment showroom, an 18-hole golf course and more than 50,000 square feet of meeting and conference space and other amenities, Belterra is anything but ordinary.

SMERF groups will appreciate Belterra’s “very competitive room rates for an upscale, full-service property, especially from Sunday through Thursday,” says Andrew Fersch, Director of Sales at Belterra. “Also, the casino floor is located completely separate from the meeting space, so meeting attendees never have to pass through the gaming area to attend a meeting.”

Belterra also offers full-service, on-site audiovisual and catering. For catered events, meeting planners can order from banquet menus or have the meal customized by Belterra chefs. For non-catered meals, guests can choose from a variety of restaurants on property, including Jeff Ruby’s Steakhouse, The Ultimate Buffet, or Aquarium Restaurant, as well as Starbucks, Ben & Jerry’s, Out of Bounds Bar & Grill, the Casino Café and the Lobby Bar.

When the meeting’s over, there are plenty of ways for guests to keep themselves occupied at Belterra. The on-site, 18-hole championship golf course designed by Tom Fazio includes GPS golf carts, driving range, putting green and pro shop. For relaxation, attendees can stop in at the full-service spa, fitness center and full-service hair and nail salon. And delegates can try their luck at Belterra’s 24-hour, full-service casino, featuring the newest slots, video poker, craps, 21, roulette, Caribbean Stud, Let it Ride, Three-Card Poker and Live Poker Room. The casino also offers smoking and non-smoking rooms.

For the non-gaming crowd, Belterra features its own boutique shopping area with clothing stores, gift shops, jewelry stores, a ten-dollar store, unique florist and more. And the heated outdoor pool includes cabanas available for rent.

And although there’s plenty to keep your group at Belterra for the duration of your meeting, there are a number of options if you want to host off-site events. The resort is located close to local wineries and the Kentucky Speedway, and is only seven miles from downtown Vevay, IN, which includes “great museums, historic homes, shopping and restaurants and was voted the fourth best rural place to live in the United States,” notes Fersch, adding, “The town will stay open specifically for groups upon request.”
